My life is a lot like a sitcom. Sometimes, it’s like Seinfeld…a lot about nothing. Most of the time, it’s very much like Frasier, filled with friends and family with plenty of issues to go around.
In the kitchen, my husband is like Top Chef (and I am like Kitchen Nightmares). He’s a veritable genius at creating a five-course meal out of a near empty fridge. Not that I’m complaining, but that wonderful man just can’t follow the simple directions on the box of mac and cheese. By the time he’s finished with it, those simple ingredients have been merged with spices and leftovers to become some gourmet casserole. (If I were to draw my husband as a cartoon character, he’d look exactly like Linguini, from the Disney cartoon Ratatouille.)
My son is the epitome of Law & Order. He has Aspergers, which adds to his rule-enforcing personality. At fifteen, he already has the tenacity of a pitbull, which adds to the idea in my head that he’s like an attorney trapped in a kid’s body. At thirteen years old, my daughter is a phenomenal artist and loves reading. She just finished reading The Hunger Games aloud to me. She has become the voice of Katniss for me.
By now, you might have figured out that I have a visual mind. But it’s not just television. I’m a movie junkie too. Science fiction and fantasy are undoubtedly my favorites. I am in awe of JJ Abrams reinvention of the Star Trek franchise. (Not too mention that I’m currently obsessing on Chris Pine. Hey, I’m 43…not dead!!) My writing muse is easily prodded into gear after a weekend binge on the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, followed by an encore of King Arthur (the one with Clive Owen).
Even though I can quote almost any line from the movie Aliens, my first love will always be books! I cut my teeth on the classics and on the entire Tarzan series. My favorite book from those early reading days is Yankee Pasha, by Edison Marshall. My list of favorite authors is very long, but here’s an eclectic list: Robert Ludlum, Anne Rice, Anne McCaffrey, Sandra Brown, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Patricia Briggs, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Meg Cabot, Leigh Michaels, Suzanne Collins, and many more. So many great stories, so little time.
Speaking of which, I’m almost out of time. Gotta go cook dinner now, my least favorite thing to do. There’s a reason why I married a chef! So, I’ll end this the way James Lipton ends his interviews on Inside the Actors Studio…
What’s my favorite word? Yes!
What’s my least favorite word? Moist.
